Helllloooo! It has been a while since I’ve written a post, my apologies for not doing so. Life has been a bit hectic recently, as I have been plagued with that awful cold that’s been going around. I was 100% convinced it was allergies ‘till it knocked me out– oops! One thing that I’ve been wanting to do lately is incorporate more personal posts on the blog about what’s going on in this life of mine. I’ve been finding it difficult to mix the personal aspects of my life in with fashion topics– “5 ways to look killer in a mini skirt”, and I’m struggling to not hate my body– they don’t really mix! It’s not always as extreme as that, but you get the idea. So, because of that, I have set this post as a little life update for you all. I also think I will move forward with starting a separate series that focuses on ME; I would love to hear your thoughts on what you prefer to see!
Since it’s absolutely way too much to try and update you on everything that’s happened recently, I’ll just touch on a few of the big things. I would have to say that hands down the most exciting change that has happened in my life recently has been becoming an Auntie! I totally understand the obsession and joy that comes from being part of the Auntie club; it’s amazing! I absolutely love kids. I mean, I do work with them for a profession, so it’s kind of a no-brainer. I’m the type of person that will hold every baby, make silly faces with kids while I’m in line at the store, and strike up conversations when I see them!
My friends who aren’t really about that kid life always make comments. It goes something like this: “Oh my God, that baby is so precious! Isn’t it the cutest?”. My friend replies, “You really love kids.” while rolling their eyes. Or I see a kid eating an ice cream cone, and I have to ask “What flavor do you have? That looks yummy. Is that your favorite kind?” *continues conversation with the kid as my friends just watch thoroughly amused*. So, being an Auntie has been such a fun experience for me! And with a name like Elliot James, one cannot help but fall in love. It’s so nice having him, my brother, my sister-in-law, and my mom back home safe and sound finally after being stuck in Houston during Hurricane Harvey! Talk about a totally frightening experience!
Another welcomed change over the past couple weeks has been my work schedule. It has lightened up significantly which has been amazing. Although it has become apparent that I still don’t know what to do with this thing called “free time”!! The people who do life with me on a regular basis have experienced first hand how much my personal life has taken a back seat over the past few years, and how flexible I have to be with my plans. I’m really excited about being able to schedule things like haircuts (funny, but true), and start doing volunteer work again. I also have so much more time to devote to my blog and grow it in the way I’ve been wanting to for a while now.
Lastly, I want to say a big thank you to everyone who reached out with prayers and love for my family. It was definitely appreciated after we experienced the tragic and unexpected loss of my sister-in-law’s younger brother a few weeks ago. I’ve been reminded over and over again recently of how life can change in an instant and no-one is guaranteed tomorrow. It’s spurred me to love those around me more fiercely, be thankful for every moment, and do my best to be present in the moment instead being distracted by the million things that pull at my attention. It has also caused me to look at my own life and ask myself if I’m happy with the legacy I’m leaving behind. I want to leave a lasting mark on the lives around me!
That’s an update on what’s going on in my life lately. I hope you enjoyed it!
