Snowshoeing adventure in Truckee, California

I had the chance to go on a couple adventures during the holidays. One fun getaway was a trip up to the snow to go snowshoeing in Truckee, California. I’ve wanted to go snowshoeing for ages, it’s even on my bucket list, but never got around to it for some reason or another. I decided this was the year! It had been snowing up in the mountains over Christmas, so I knew that it would be a perfect winter wonderland. Since I had the time off work, I started making plans to head up to the snow and found a friend to go snowshoeing with me. Sure enough, the snow was as beautiful as ever! Since it’s such a short drive to reach this snowy destination in Truckee (about an hour and a half away), it makes for a perfect day trip. There’s something so refreshing to me about getting away and exploring a new place or just revisiting one that I haven’t seen in awhile, even if it’s only for a day. I just love the change of scenery!

There was a necessary stop that we had to make in cute Historic Downtown Truckee for a bite to eat and then we made the quick drive over to Donner Memorial State Park to get the party started. I wasn’t looking for any kind of crazy trail, so this was the perfect (flat) place to explore for this first timer. I’ve heard that snowshoeing was a great workout and I wasn’t disappointed. It wasn’t anything too crazy, although, I’m sure that the flat landscape helped. I loved this trail because you could wander down through the campgrounds to the lake and go explore into the woods. I couldn’t stop taking photos of everything! After snowshoeing, we made our way back to Historic Truckee which is so adorable and grabbed a hot beverage at Coffee Bar and wandered around the little shops. I had to stop in on one of my faves, Bespoke, to see what was new. Think of a country Anthropologie with a lot of ceramic home ware. I always want everything in there! I could’ve browsed through all the shops for hours, but it was sadly time to head home. On the drive back, we were greeted by the most beautiful sunset descending over the mountains. It was a pretty perfect day!

I hope everyone is enjoying the new year!

Haha aww you’re just the sweetest Gail! I’m such a baby in cold weather too. What’s nice about snowshoeing is that you’re staying active, so the body stays really warm the whole time, except for when you stop to make a snow angel You should try it sometime! Hope you’re well xx
