I recently had the pleasure of attending Sacramento Fashion Week for the first time! I’ve known about the event for a couple of years now and have friends who attended, so I was really excited to check it out for myself. This year, the designer showcase was held at the Sacramento Railyards, which is a neat industrial type space that they transformed for the event. There were two showcases for emerging designers, one for Spring/Summer ‘17 and another for Autumn/Winter ‘17. They even had Project Runway finalist, Alexandria von Bromssen from Season 12 who closed out the whole show. I’m a big fan of the show and watched it religiously during her season, so I was really looking forward to seeing her collection.
Leading up to the shows, there were all kinds of fun events in Sacramento that you could take part in that were either put on by Sacramento Fashion Week or simply inspired by it. My favorite event was an Instagram meetup put together by my friends at Good Inc where models, photographers, bloggers, and designers came together to do something that we all love to do, express our creativity. Meetups are one of my favorite ways to come together as a community here in Sacramento.
All week, I was trying to figure out what to wear to the shows on the last two nights of Sacramento fashion week. I’m happy to report that I found clothes to wear, it’s a miracle! For the first night of the designer showcase, I wanted to work around this awesome Adidas tee I that I’d just purchased. Now be honest, who else is excited about these old school logos that are coming back from designers? I can’t be the only one? In a way, I don’t feel like enough time has passed for me to be wearing all this 90’s gear again, but I like it, so I’m just going with it.
I kept those old school vibes strong with my look by styling my tee with a pair of mom jeans that I find myself wearing a lot these days. I wanted to take that everyday tee shirt and pair of jeans and make it into something that I could rock at fashion week. I gave my look that extra flair by accessorizing with some bold statement pieces like a cozy fur bomber jacket and a sparkly statement necklace to make it runway worthy I then added some nude wedges and a black clutch to complete my look.
For the second night of the designer showcase, I wanted to wear something a bit feminine, and knew that this green slip dress was the one to make it happen. Of course, when I say “feminine” I mean structured tops and leather jackets! One thing that I decided after wearing this was that I need to incorporate more of this beautiful shade of green into my wardrobe. It’s my “color” after all! To create my minimalistic, yet feminine look, I layered my slip dress over a crisp white button up then, added my favorite leather jacket, velvet boots and a pair of floral socks for a fun added statement. When I saw them, I couldn’t believe how perfect they were for my dress when I saw them! I think I may be wearing statement socks more often, what do you think?
I had a fun time at Sacramento Fashion Week getting dressed up, running into friends, and seeing what Sacramento has for us in these upcoming seasons!
