Our favorite skirt of the summer, the mini skirt, has decided to stick around for another season! This little number was the perfect go-to piece in the summer because it was easy to style and oh, so cute. What about during the colder months? How can this lovey staple evolve to fit our style needs when the temperatures drop? Here’s my favorite way to style a mini skirt for cold weather.
If you’ve been following me for any length of time, you know that I’m not a girlie girl. So, it should come as no surprise to you that my favorite way to style a mini skirt in cold weather is to style it with an oversized sweater and over the knee boots. I find that combining these pieces are a magical mixture for me to achieve an easy, yet stylish look. They go together like hot chocolate and whip cream, wine and cheese, coffee and cute spaces…Maybe I’m just hungry, giving you all these food analogies… wait, I’ll be right back *runs to grab snack*. Anyways, I love mixing opposing styles–feminine pieces with more masculine items, baggy with fitted, and showing skin in one area while covering the rest. It’s just how I roll!
The first element to my magical mini skirt mixture is a pair of over the knee boots. OTK boots are no joke, they are quite selfish in their need to be the center of attention, so I give them what they want. They are the perfect addition to a mini skirt when it’s cold out because they keep almost my entire leg covered and warm. They draw all the attention to my legs, making them the focal point, and spicing up the outfit. Since I’m on the shorter side and haven’t been blessed with #legsfordays, I need OTK boots with a heel to help my cause.
I found my dream boots over at Aldo, plus like a dozen other pairs that I loved. They are fitted all the way up, with a cute square heel, and lace up details on the back. Simple and stylish, just how I like it! If you’re hesitant about showing skin on your upper leg or it gets too freezing for bare legs, just add a pair of tights to warm up your look. Side note–remember Aldo on Black Friday, it’s rumored they’ll be having 50% off like last year.
The other element to this magical mini skirt mixture is a cozy oversized sweater. I love that sweaters make an outfit instantly warm and relaxed which I’m all about, as you know. Since I’m showing off a bit of leg for this daytime look, I like to keep things ladylike up top to shield the eyes of small children. Honestly, I just have to keep the feminine vibes at a reasonable level! With that being said though, I did fall in love with this pink sweater. What is happening to me?! For reference, I currently own one other pink thing, it’s an old tank top. The sweater is extremely soft and fuzzy, so I think that’s how it all started. I would usually tuck in the front of the sweater, but this one is cropped, so it’s perfect as it is.
I styled it with my cute Tosca Blu backpack that I snagged while I was in Florence, Italy!
If I need an additional layer, which we don’t need quite yet here in Sacramento, I would style it with a long oversized blazer or a cute duster coat to continue the illusion of length.
